• Experience: At least seven years of work experience, with a demonstrable commitment to addressing poverty. Acumen says its Fellows average 10–15 years of work experience, including about 10 years working on poverty-related problems. The average describes the cohort; it is not a substitute for the stated seven-year minimum.
• Evidence of execution and growth: The selection indicators include prior entrepreneurial success, deep knowledge of the problem area, evidence that the number of people served or revenue has grown over time, and a credible route to greater impact. Applicants should be ready to explain what their organization has done, what has changed, and what expansion would require.
• Influence and sustainability: Acumen looks for founders or senior leaders who can affect organizational decisions, industry standards, or policy. It also names some success in obtaining external capital or institutional grants as an indicator of readiness.
